Utah Governor Spencer Cox gave a word salad answer to NBC's Meet The Press over his signing legislation banning gender-affirming care for minors.
Host Chuck Todd asked why Republicans are so obsessed with this issue and targeting the trans community when only one-half of 1% identify as trans.
"Well, I think it is a growing number. In fact, it's a vastly growing number," Cox replied.
A slight increase in the overall population isn't some trend.
"If you go back just ten years ago and look at the numbers -- and here's the problem, this has become such a toxic issue that it's hard to have a rational conversation around it," Cox said.
It's not a hard issue to discuss at all. Parents have a right to make the best choice for their families that they see fit.
The Christian nationalist MAGA cult is using the LGBTQAI+ as their punching bag for political power, and Cox is one of them. It's Republican hate policy against trans kids that is robbing parents of those decisions and are expanding the "toxicity" of the issue.
Todd then brought up a recent suicide by a trans person, and Governor Cox's response was heartbreaking.
"A state senator in Kentucky [gave] a very impassioned speech earlier this week. Her son committed suicide; her son's trans. And she was basically begging the legislature to stop these bills that are targeting, because it's making these folks feel like targets," Todd explained.
